Be bold. Be kind. Be intentional.
I’m almost 6 years sober, with 9 years of working experience, and I’ve learned a lot along the way. Starting in 2016 as an account manager and becoming a female executive by 2022 taught me that “recovery” and “addiction” are taboo in most workplaces. In the first two years of sobriety, I was so overwhelmed with just keeping my head above water and learning how to function in society that I couldn’t fathom feeling “normal” at work.
I’ve learned that most people aren’t trying to deter sobriety, they just don’t know what they don’t know. Ya know? Sure, some treated me differently after disclosing my “disability”, but my recovery community and Higher Power gave me everything I needed to keep pushing forward. And I lived to tell the tale with more joy than I could’ve imagined.
I’ve faced the full range from discrimination to acceptance in my career. So here I am, finally doing the thing I preach to others… using what I’ve come to know as my “sober superpower” to do two things…
1. Help others find, love, and use their own superpowers to boldly approach the world.
2. Educate those who want to create safe work environments for recovering employees.

Making others feel welcomed, heard and seen is a priority.
What do those in recovery want you to understand?
First, you should know we all have different stories, backgrounds and expeirences. Very few of us were the middle aged white man under a bridge in a trench coat carrying a brown paperbag that the movies and society seem to default to.
Second, we wanted to be treated like a normal person, and not be seen as “broken” when we voice a need or are honest about our past.
What do I want you to understand?
You deserve to not only feel like you belong in this world, but to be met with understanding and joy as you navigate the world, sober. There’s a tribe of peole out there who want to see you succeed, who share your experience, and who need help finding their voice.
